Zales Close 105 Stores This Year

Jewelry retailer Zale Corp. announced in Feb. that it would close 105 stores and cut 20 percent of its headquarters staff. It said the actions will save $65 million a year as it tries to move out of a multiyear sales slump.

Zale has struggled through weak holiday seasons, a constant flux in strategy and several changes in leadership in recent years. The weakening economy is hurting all jewelry retailers as customers cut back on luxuries.
